Eid al-Fitr

Today, Muslims around the world celebrate the beginning of Eid al-Fitr, a three day holiday that ends the holy fasting month of Ramadan. In Thailand, a revered collective of Muslims climb to the top of a mountain in Yala province and look for the new moon. If a crescent moon appears after sunset The Central Islamic Council of Thailand formally announces the beginning of Eid al-Fitr. The morning after the sighting of the new moon is accompanied by an extensive prayer, which is followed by breaking fast. Throughout Thailand, many Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr by visiting friends and family, eating plentiful amounts of kanom and curry, and forgiving others.
