Eid al-Adha

Last week, Muslims around the world celebrated Eid al-Adha, one of two major Islamic holidays, that honors the willingness of Ibraham to sacrifice his son at God’s command. Wearing ornate clothing, Muslims congregate at the mosque around 8 a.m. for a special Eid al-Adha prayer. Afterwards, kanom and a meal derived from slaughtered goat, sheep, or cow is shared with friends and family. In the spirit of giving, adults gift children with small sums of money. In Southern Thailand, some PCVs were fortunate enough to experience this holiday with their communities.
